So April is here and things have settled down now and my schedule has opened up once again.
For me that means getting to do more of what I enjoy and having to of course fill out my days more with things to keep me occupied.
Like many fellow Anime fans I’ve got an extensive backlog of things to watch or catch up on.
I thought I would blow the dust off my keyboard and bring you all a small taste of what’s been keeping my attention lately.

One Piece
Ah yes the ever present pirate adventure, but what’s not to love and honestly given that I have a long way to go yet and probably won’t ever be caught up.
If I’m having a bad day, or I’m just looking to escape for a while, One Piece is kind of like visiting with an old friend, it’s always been there, and for the forseeable future looks like it won’t be going anywhere.
I have memories of the dub version airing on YTV as a kid, and though I can’t say I remember tuning in I will say it was there enough to leave an impression behind in my brain.
Now that I’ve started watching (which I did initially for an article that never came to be) I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon and maybe I’ll get a revamped version of that original article posted someday too.

Gachiakuta
Of course not everything I’ve been watching is from years gone by.
I too have been swept up by the Gachiakuta hype and honestly I couldn’t be happier about that, and I can see why it’s up for Anime of the Year and many other awards.
The grime covered world of Gachiakuta had me hooked from the opening sequence and has been the most fun I’ve had with an Anime in probably years if I’m being honest.
Gachiakuta hits all the right notes for me as an anime fan and you can tell a aboslute mountain of love and attention was given to this adaptation.
Arguably the heaviest hitter of the 2025 anime calender, and for good reason, watch it if you haven’t yet.

The Summer Hikaru Died
For those of you that have been around for a while or know me in person, I love Horror and Horror Adjacent media, and though I’ve so far kept my feet out of the anime horror genre, this is the exception.
Finding a home on Netflix no doubt gave this show a huge (well deserved) boost and honestly I think it fits well alongside some of the other shows in the Netflix anime catalogue.
The Summer Hikaru Died has an amazing style, and a lived in world that hooked me and many other viewers, and the premise is a home run as well.
Disturbing, yet oddly captivating and emotionally driven, The Summer Hikaru Died is must watch material in my opinion.

Scum of the Brave
Here’s the most recent watch on the list, and from what I’ve seen so far I’m impressed.
While yes Scum of the Brave isn’t exactly groundbreaking, it doesn’t need to be in my opinion.
I’ve been chasing the feeling I first got when I watched DuRaRaRa! for years now, like nine years if I’m being exact and honestly Scum of the Brave is as close as I’ve gotten to that feeling yet, not a perfect match but damn is it close.
Does the power system feel a little hokey or cliche, sure, but I can’t say I’m not a sucker for an good old fashioned anime slugfest, throw some swords in the mix and now we’re cooking.
The art and animation has that perfect blend of simplistic segments while being captivating at the right times.
Scum of the Brave, is like choclate cake, classic, flavorful, a solid choice, it uses what works and doesn’t change the recipe too many ways, but that’s perfectly fine.
